What does "Expected Nearby" mean?

Modified on Fri, 12 Jan at 10:39 AM

The "Expected Nearby" label on the computer vision suggestions indicates that the iNaturalist Geomodel predicts that the taxon occurs in that location. The About section for each taxon in the model has a link that shows the taxon in context within the Geomodel.

By default, iNaturalist only displays suggested taxa that are visually similar and are expected nearby (if visually similar taxa are expected nearby). If no visually similar taxa are expected nearby, it displays visually similar taxa regardless of where they are expected to occur.
