While it's possible to record an animal's call or song with iNaturalist and upload it to as an observation, iNaturalist does not offer Computer Vision identification suggestions for audio files. You will have to upload the observation and the iNaturalist community can help you identify it.
Before uploading your observation, we highly recommend that you add an identification to it. This will help it be seen by other users who may be able to help you. The easiest way to add a broad identification is to tap on one of the icons.
For example, if you know you recorded a bird call you can tap on the bird icon here to add an identification of Birds:
Then, a community member looking to identify observations of birds is more likely to find it and help you identify it. You can do the same for insects, mammals, amphibians, etc.
If none of the taxa associated with those icons are correct, or you know exactly what you recorded, you can tap on the Search button to search for a taxon and add it as an identification. For example, if you recorded a Red-tailed Hawk, you can search for it and select it:
If you don't know what kind of animal it is, you can identify it as Animals.
