Can two or more people make an observation of the same organism?

Modified on Wed, 5 Mar at 1:35 PM

Because each observation records an encounter between an observer and an organism (or recent evidence of an organism), it's fine for multiple people to make an observation of the same organism.

For example, if you are hiking with a group and you all want to make an observation of the same insect or plant and post them to your own iNaturalist accounts, it's perfectly fine to do so.

This does mean, however, that iNaturalist data are not ideal for recording abundance. If you plan to use iNaturalist data, please be aware of this.
