What are the keyboard shortcuts for the Identify page?

Below is a list of keyboard shortcuts (also known as "hot keys") for use with the Identify page's observation view. These shortcuts may take a little while to memorize, but using these will substantially speed up your identification and annotation work on that page.

Basic / Info Tab Keyboard Shortcuts


  • x = mark the observation as captive/cultivated

  • r = mark the observation as reviewed

  • c = add a comment to the observation

  • i = add an identification to the observation

  • f = add the observation to your favorites

  • z = zoom in on photo

  • SPACE = play first sound in observation

  • = go to next observation

  • = go to previous observation

  • SHIFT + = go to next tab

  • SHIFT + = go to previous tab

  • ALT/CMD + = go to next photo

  • ALT/CMD + = go to previous photo

  • ? = show keyboard shortcuts

Annotations Tab Keyboard Shortcuts


These annotations can only be used when the Annotations tab of the Identify observation view is visible. This page contains the definitions of iNaturalist's Annotations and Annotation Values. 


Alive or Dead

  • a then a = add "Alive or Dead: Alive" annotation

  • a then d = add "Alive or Dead: Dead" annotation

  • a then c = add "Alive or Dead: Cannot Be Determined" annotation


Evidence of Presence

  • e then o = add "Evidence of Presence: Organism" annotation

  • e then s = add "Evidence of Presence: Scat" annotation

  • e then g = add "Evidence of Presence: Gall" annotation

  • e then t = add "Evidence of Presence: Track" annotation

  • e then b = add "Evidence of Presence: Bone" annotation

  • e then e = add "Evidence of Presence: Egg" annotation

  • e then c = add "Evidence of Presence: Construction" annotation

  • e then l = add "Evidence of Presence: Leafmine" annotation


Life Stage

  • l then a = add "Life Stage: Adult" annotation

  • l then l = add "Life Stage: Larva" annotation

  • l then n = add "Life Stage: Nymph" annotation

  • l then p = add "Life Stage: Pupa" annotation

  • l then e = add "Life Stage: Egg" annotation

Flowers and Fruits

  • p then l = add "Flowers and Fruits: Flowers" annotation

  • p then n = add "Flowers and Fruits: No Flowers or Fruits" annotation


Leaves

  • v then b = add "Leaves: Breaking Leaf Buds" annotation

  • v then g = add "Leaves: Green Leaves" annotation

  • v then c = add "Leaves: Colored Leaves" annotation

  • v then n = add "Leaves: No Live Leaves" annotation


Sex

  • s then f = add "Sex: Female" annotation

  • s then m = add "Sex: Male" annotation

  • s then c = add "Sex: Cannot Be Determined" annotation


Projects/Observation Fields

  • SHIFT + p = Add to Project

  • SHIFT + f = Add Observation Field
